Dean Brand Named Head Coach of KCU Women’s Basketball

Grayson, KY – Kentucky Christian University is proud to announce the appointment of Dean Brand as the new Head Coach of the KCU Women’s Basketball program.

Coach Brand brings a wealth of experience, passion, and Christ-centered leadership to the program. Born and raised on the farmlands of south-central Nebraska, Brand’s love for basketball took root early and grew through years of playing, mentoring, and coaching.

He played high school basketball at Lexington Senior High before continuing his athletic and academic journey at Nebraska Christian College. As a four-year starter, Brand helped lead his team to back-to-back national championships and earned the distinction of Academic All-American, a testament to both his athletic skill and academic dedication.

“I’ve been blessed to stay close to the game,” said Brand. “From coaching middle school teams, assisting at a local Christian school, to having the incredible opportunity to coach my son in high school and assist with my daughter’s team—it’s all been part of the journey God has prepared me for.”

In July 2022, Brand joined the KCU Women’s Basketball staff as an assistant coach, building deep relationships with players and contributing to the growth of the program. He has also served as a professor of business and sport management at KCU since August 2009, impacting students in the classroom as well as on the court.

“I’m grateful to represent the university on the court and on the recruiting trail,” said Brand. “My coaching style is quite subdued—more detail-based. I love trying to help each individual player maximize their impact both for herself and the team. Of course, everything I do is a Kingdom thing. My aspiration is inspiration.”

KCU Athletic Director David Manning shared his excitement for the future of the program under Brand’s leadership:
“We are blessed to have Coach Brand. He does wonderful work on the court and in the classroom. Coach Brand loves KCU and believes in its mission.”

Dean Brand’s appointment as Head Coach is a natural continuation of his commitment to faith, education, and excellence in athletics. He is truly living a dream—leading a Christ-centered program where young women grow as players, students, and disciples.
