Your Step‑By‑Step New Student Checklist ✔️

Use this checklist to be fully prepared for your first day on campus. Each item includes what it is, where to find it.

Tip: You don’t have to finish it all at once—just come back to this page and pick up where you left off.

New Student Checklist

Work through each section in order to complete your new student checklist and be ready for an amazing start to classes.

Order your final, official transcript to be sent directly to KCU.

What this is: KCU has to have an official copy of all your transcripts BEFORE you report to campus

Where to do it: Transcript must be sent directly from school (email, mail, or third-party service such as Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse)

Set up your MyApps account & Register for classes

What this is: Your MyApps account gives you access to your KCU portal (MyKCU), your KCU email (Gmail), and the classroom management system (Canvas).

Where to do it: Your KCU email log in information will be sent to your personal email once you're accepted.

Register for classes

What this is: You need to sign up for the classes you will be taking this upcoming semester.

Where to do it: Once KCU receives your official transcripts, you will receive an email that gives you directions on how to register or you can choose to schedule a time to register with your enrollment counselor via video chat.

Complete FAFSA

What this is: FAFSA is how you apply for Federal Student Aid.

Where to do it: You can apply online at this https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa, make sure you’ve added KCU as a school and use the KCU FAFSA code: 001965

Fill out New Student Forms

Where to do it: You can find your new student forms here at https://www.kcu.edu/new-student-registration/. Be sure to know your KCU student ID number.

What this is: Your new student forms include housing, health, vehicle info, etc.

Send in a headshot photo for school ID

What this is: A clear headshot saved as jpeg (no sunglasses or hats) that can be used on your School ID.

Where to do it: Fill at the form at https://www.kcu.edu/student-id-pictures/ and submit your student ID photo. You will need to know your KCU student ID number

Order textbooks

What this is: You can order textbooks through KCU’s campus store or simply get the booklist and buy them elsewhere.

Where to do it: To add the amount of your textbooks to your student account you will need a Voucher ID that is emailed to your KCU email. You can access the virtual bookstore at this https://bncvirtual.com/kcu. If you have any issues or questions, call our campus store at 606.474.3247

Accept your Financial Aid Package

What this is: To officially be able to receive any awards, scholarships, grants, or loans, you have to accept them. If you do not accept them, they can not be added to your school bill.

Where to do it: *Your FAFSA must be completed and processed to accept your financial Aid package.

Instructions:

1. Log in to your MyApps

2. Go to MyKCU

3. Click on “Financial Aid” on the left hand side

4. Click on “Menu” at the top

5. Click on “Accept Awards” from drop menu

6. Agree to “Terms and Conditions”

7. Look over awards and change “Pending” to either “Accept” or “Deny”

8. Click “Submit

8. Complete Federal Student Loan Requirements

What this is: The federal government requires all students who are taking out their federal student loans to complete an Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note online. If a student DOES NOT complete these two things, their loans will not be added to their school bills.

Where to do it:

Entrance Counseling : a teaching tool that allows students to better understand loans and how they work.

Master Promissory Note: simply listing two references (one may reside at the same address as student, the other may not)

***These two items are REQUIRED by the government before student loans can be disbursed. 

***If you do not plan on taking out the federal student loans, please email our financial aid office at finaid@kcu.edu and let them know

  • Move In Dates

    Fall Athletes (football, soccer & volleyball players): July 30th / 9am - 12pm.  

    All other New Students: August 8th / 9am-12pm

  • First Knight Orientation

    Mandatory for ALL new KCU students, parents welcome: August 8th / 3:30pm

  • Classes Start

    Night classes: August 10th 

    Regular schedule: August 11th 

  • Breaks

    Labor Day - No Class: September 7th 

    Winter Break - No Class: November 25th - January 8th 

  • Academic 

    Last Day to Add/Drop Classes: August 18th

    Midterms: September 21st - 25th 

    Opening Spring Semester Registration Week: October 19th - 23rd 

    Last Day to Withdraw From a Class: Friday, October 23rd

    Final Exams: November 23rd and 24th
